Very easy to read。 The audio is very slow, I actually sped it up。 Probably won't continue with the series, though。 Very easy to read。 The audio is very slow, I actually sped it up。 Probably won't continue with the series, though。 。。。more

This is excellent for people just starting to learn German, or who are trying to improve from a rudimentary level。The story is funny and engaging。 The author does a pretty good job of giving you a per-chapter glossary of the "more difficult" words。 This is excellent for people just starting to learn German, or who are trying to improve from a rudimentary level。The story is funny and engaging。 The author does a pretty good job of giving you a per-chapter glossary of the "more difficult" words。 。。。more

I enjoy reading it very much。 10 Chapters, around 2 pages of story each。 The language level (and the dictionary) progresses as you read it。 On the first chapter, each sentence only has 1 verb, but the following chapters will start having second verb or zu + infinitive verb (the stuff that make learning deutsch so hard) on the sentences。 The story is about the adventure of Sicilian guy in modern-day Berlin, which also kinda introduces us to the Germany's culture I enjoy reading it very much。 10 Chapters, around 2 pages of story each。 The language level (and the dictionary) progresses as you read it。 On the first chapter, each sentence only has 1 verb, but the following chapters will start having second verb or zu + infinitive verb (the stuff that make learning deutsch so hard) on the sentences。 The story is about the adventure of Sicilian guy in modern-day Berlin, which also kinda introduces us to the Germany's culture 。。。more

This is a fantastic book for improving your German reading proficiency as a beginner/early intermediate learner。 Too bad the glossary at the end of each chapter doesn't give you the infinitive form of the verbs and it also doesn't give you both the article of the nouns, which is very important in constructing German sentences。 Yes, I can definitely look them up, but alternating between multiple devices and navigating several pages at a time can be a real pain。 It also seems that the Anki decks b This is a fantastic book for improving your German reading proficiency as a beginner/early intermediate learner。 Too bad the glossary at the end of each chapter doesn't give you the infinitive form of the verbs and it also doesn't give you both the article of the nouns, which is very important in constructing German sentences。 Yes, I can definitely look them up, but alternating between multiple devices and navigating several pages at a time can be a real pain。 It also seems that the Anki decks by the author also have this problem。 I'm fine with how the author explains the usage of certain words using the phrases in the story though。 4 stars from me。 。。。more

My first German read! This book was a great segue into a more narrative-based understanding of German。 I've finished A1 level and am somewhere in A2。 I wouldn't recommend it for an absolute beginner of course, but I was surprised by how much I was able to pick up。 The story itself was also light hearted and comical in my opinion so that really helped to keep me engaged。 Will be lending this to my friends learning German! Great for Beginners This has been the first book I ever read in German。 And I got to say it has been a great experience。 The writing is rather simple which help when you’re at a beginner level。 I’m currently at a A2 level。 It was helped me a lot to gain more vocabulary and grammar structures。 Complementing my group lessons。 The best part is having a review of reading comprehension at the end of each chapter and having access to extra material at the end of the book。 Another great aspect is being Great for Beginners This has been the first book I ever read in German。 And I got to say it has been a great experience。 The writing is rather simple which help when you’re at a beginner level。 I’m currently at a A2 level。 It was helped me a lot to gain more vocabulary and grammar structures。 Complementing my group lessons。 The best part is having a review of reading comprehension at the end of each chapter and having access to extra material at the end of the book。 Another great aspect is being able to buy the audio book version so one can enhance all its senses and comprehend faster/better。 Truly recommend this series。 The storyline is fun, light and the main character is 100% relatable。 。。。more

Very easy and well-structured。 It's engaging enough to keep the attention span and avoid giving up atthe first lexical difficulties。Recommended (But I would say at least at an A2+/B1 level) Very easy and well-structured。 It's engaging enough to keep the attention span and avoid giving up atthe first lexical difficulties。Recommended (But I would say at least at an A2+/B1 level) 。。。more

Juru!! Ich habe mein erstes deutsches Buch gelesen。 Es war schwierig, aber es gab mir auch Freude。 I did my best to "go with the flow", and not get hung up about unfamiliar words or grammatical gender of household appliances。 It helped that each story was short so I was not insufferably slow。 Excited to read the other titles within this series! Diese ist das erste Buch, dass ich auf Deutsche gelernt habe。 Es war sehr gut und interessant。 Ich mag Dino und seine Erfahrungen waren sehr lustig zu lesen。 Ich denke dass dieses Buch mir geholfen hat。 Ich kann Deutsch besser verstehen。

It might be better if the translated words were footnotes at the bottom of the pages, so you didn’t have to flip back and forth。

'New Year, New Happiness'A relatable story about a young man living in Berlin for a year, and his experiences trying to learn the language。 He shares an apartment with roommates。 And, the chapters follow each of the seasons。 (The title of my review is a direct quote from the story。) This is the first level in one of Andre Klein's series of readers for German Language learners。 Like most of its type, it is a chapter book with simple vocabulary, which gets progressively more challenging throughout 'New Year, New Happiness'A relatable story about a young man living in Berlin for a year, and his experiences trying to learn the language。 He shares an apartment with roommates。 And, the chapters follow each of the seasons。 (The title of my review is a direct quote from the story。) This is the first level in one of Andre Klein's series of readers for German Language learners。 Like most of its type, it is a chapter book with simple vocabulary, which gets progressively more challenging throughout the series。 The reader has the benefit of reading adult interest level material while practicing already familiar vocabulary。 In the paperback readers I have used in the past learning Spanish and Greek, less familiar words were in bold and could be found in the glossary as needed。 But, with the Kindle in recent decades it is really so much easier, since you can long press these unfamiliar words to get the definition immediately onscreen。 Learning is much faster this way。 I read this in Kindle, and reread each chapter following along with the Audible, to reinforce correct pronunciation。 There are comprehension questions in German at the end of each chapter。 And, Klein provides a link for free bonus materials online, like flashcards, and print-ables for phone and pc。 Just remember that now you can even download dual language dictionaries on the app on your smartphone。 (In the past this was only available on the Kindle devices。) I suggest selecting a German/English dictionary that will present an English translation for German words when needed。 Of course, the alternative is to go with German/ German。。。 and a bit more frustrating。 But, when you buy your first Kindle book in any foreign language (even if its a free book) the appropriate dictionary is downloaded automatically free。 For example in this case you would get the German/German dictionary automatically free, because you have some Kindle books in German。 But, getting a different dictionary, like the German/English, is a separate purchase。 Whichever dictionary you download will work with all of your German language Kindle books。 Keep in mind this works the same with any language you are learning。 I have the whole series of these readers, and am looking forward to moving on to the second one in the series now。 I think it is helpful to reread these books a few times for practice before moving on, because you have a better command of the vocabulary before getting yourself in too deep。 Either way, I highly recommend Andre Klein's series。 。。。more

This book was perfect for me, I'm a beginner having never learnt German in school, but I spent lockdown doing DuoLingo for 5-10mins each day。 I was surprised by how much I could read of this book。 It is nice and simple, has all the difficult words translated at the end of the chapter and there is a quiz after each chapter to check your progress。 The stories are interesting about the culture and funny too。 I can't wait to read more, it has really boosted my confidence and is a lovely way to learn This book was perfect for me, I'm a beginner having never learnt German in school, but I spent lockdown doing DuoLingo for 5-10mins each day。 I was surprised by how much I could read of this book。 It is nice and simple, has all the difficult words translated at the end of the chapter and there is a quiz after each chapter to check your progress。 The stories are interesting about the culture and funny too。 I can't wait to read more, it has really boosted my confidence and is a lovely way to learn。 。。。more

I have been studying German for 6 months or so via an app, and used this book to improve my reading fluency and vocabulary。 Each story is amusing and teaches a little about the culture of Berlin。 It has an easy-to-use lexicon and questions to check comprehension after each chapter。 I have found it helpful and have already bought the next book in the series。
